Body work

Balance: relaxation and movement

We have come to consider our current environment of stimuli, social media, news in general, polarization, and world-level agendas as normal and how our physical body reacts to them as abnormal, as pathology, as disease. But the many stressors that trigger our nervous system and keep us in a continuous state of alertness are not normal and actually make us unhealthy.

What our body needs is rest and relaxation. By doing so, we signal to our body that we are safe. This allows body processes to recover, returning us to balance, significantly increasing our quality of life, and slowing down our aging process. Relaxation is the key to being able to feel and hear your body. Thereby allowing healing to take place through awareness. Relaxing and slowing down enables you to connect with your inner world, to identify your needs, to grow. Rest is a requirement for effort, not the other way around…

In addition to Breathwork, Enneagram coaching and The Reconnection® there are other types of sessions possible to release stress and tension, both individually: Massage Therapy, Iliopsoas Release/TRE, Training & Stretching, and in a group: Yoga, Meditation, Soul Flow Dance.

Body work – Individual

These sessions take place in the practice in Amsterdam-Noord:

Training & Stretching2024-01-17T18:33:26+01:00

Half an hour of exercise and stretching a day will keep your body supple. Growing older is not in the ageing, but in the degree to which the physical body remains flexible. By encouraging flexibility, pain and restriction of movement are avoided and we move through life more relaxed. This session may be combined with Massage Therapy as needed.

Iliopsoas Release / TRE2024-01-17T18:32:51+01:00

The iliopsoas, the main flexor of the hip joint, is an important location for storing unprocessed emotions. Through the Tension Release Exercises (TRE) developed by David Berceli, the tension of the iliopsoas and surrounding muscles is broken down by vibration. This session is often combined with Breathwork and/or with Massage Therapy where appropriate.

Massage Therapy2024-01-17T18:32:31+01:00

The prevention and elimination of physical pain stimulates the body’s self-healing ability on all levels (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual). Even a light touch has healing effects. Relaxing Massages promote blood and lymph circulation, create theta waves in the brain, stimulate relaxation, and thus healing. Therapeutic Complaint-Focused Massages serve as specific treatment for conditions such as whiplash, tennis elbow, headaches, etc. This involves the use of Deep Tissue Massage which works more deeply with the muscles and fascia, improving the structural balance of the body (also known as Myofascial Release) and the use of Neuro Muscular Therapy which involves specific loosening/releasing of individual muscles, including Trigger Point Therapy. In addition, you will find aspects of the Hawaiian Lomi Lomi tradition in the massage.

Body work – Group

These group sessions are being offered in workshops and retreats:

Soul Flow Dance2024-01-17T18:35:32+01:00

It is movement that creates the flow of life. Movement creates change. From a physical perspective, the movement of our muscles allows us to move individual body parts, to move into a different position, and to change location. It allows us to literally move through life. From an energy perspective, movement of energy allows us to let go of limitations, to feel connection in our body, and the connection of our body with the outside world and the spiritual realm. Dance and liberation of the soul have always been connected. Gabrielle Roth who developed 5 Rhythms says, “If you want to move your psyche, your inner self, move your body.” Be willing to sweat for your desires, for that which you want to put into motion!

Meditation2024-01-17T18:35:14+01:00

Meditation is nothing more or less than being fully aware in the moment. In other words, being present in the now. Our thoughts are always there. However, you have a choice whether to let them guide you or to merely observe them. Meditation is not just sitting motionless. It is rather the challenge in our fast-paced Western world to experience the now during the many activities of daily life, to remain in the moment with everything we do and experience. Meditation is being aware of every action you do or leave, whatever action that may be.

Gentle Flow Yoga2024-01-17T18:34:23+01:00

The name says it all: Gentle Flow Yoga consists of gentle waves of movements that alternate training and stretching.

Face Yoga2024-01-17T18:34:56+01:00

Face Yoga definitely requires daily discipline, but even a single session makes your face and whole being glow! In daily life we repeatedly use mostly unconscious facial expressions (frowning, looking surprised, etc.), thus working our muscles becoming stronger, creating lines and wrinkles as well. In addition, the longer we live, the looser our skin becomes, in part because our skull shrinks. Relaxation and training of our face results in a sharper jawline, more open eyes, less deep wrinkles, and an overall feeling of happiness.

Restorative Yoga2024-01-17T18:34:02+01:00

Restorative Yoga completely omits the active part of all other forms of yoga. Here it is all about complete relaxation, allowing the body to restore itself on every possible level. You seek the silence within yourself and feel what there is to feel. Relaxation is not only necessary after an operation or injury, for example, but also after a period of mental overload. In fact, just like sufficient sleep, the relaxation that Restorative Yoga evokes can prevent many problems. The more relaxed our physical body is, the easier our life energy can flow, the more resistant we are to everything that comes our way, and the faster our body recovers. Restorative Yoga makes use of many props and the poses are held even longer than in Yin Yoga, 15 to 20 minutes.

Yin Yoga2024-01-17T18:33:45+01:00

Yin Yoga originated from an anatomical point of view. Have you ever noticed how beautiful human bodies are in their differences? At the level of our being, we are all the same, but at the level of our physical bodies, we differ because our bones are different. Because of this, not only are our body shapes different, but also our movements. With different bones our joints have a different range of motion. In Yin Yoga there is no “perfect alignment” or the perfect posture that applies to everyone. Instead, Yin Yoga respects individual differences, which is why it offers many variations for postures and uses props. The gentle long-duration stretches (3 to 5 minutes), mostly lying down, are particularly designed to melt connective tissue (tendons, ligaments, fascia). This connective tissue is more stiff and dry (yin) than the other tissues in our body, such as muscles (yang). The older we get, the drier our connective tissue is and the stiffer we move around. Active stretches that still feel comfortable are key to staying flexible.
